The Club staff is proud to name Bill Sholly as the Indian Valley Boys & Girls Club’s Youth of the Year for 2007. This prestigious title is awarded throughout Boys & Girls Clubs across the U.S. in recognition of young men and women who embody the ideals of the Club. The Youth of the Year is the highest honor that can be bestowed upon a Club member. A Boy Scout since the third grade, Bill was recently accepted and recognized as an Eagle Scout. One of the projects that he initiated to achieve this goal was the Conquer Hunger Now food collection, benefiting families in need serviced by the Indian Valley Opportunity Center. The theme of this project that rings true in most other areas in Bill’s life is that it is a legacy project. The project is set up to be successful well beyond Bill’s days of direct involvement. Bill seeks to make this kind of lasting impact in all of his work and upon all those whom he comes in contact with. This commitment to making a lasting impact is evident in all other areas of Bill’s life. Bill is an accomplished high school athlete, receiving multiple athletic honors and accolades, including Suburban 1 Second Team All League Player, Honorable Mention All-Area, Honorable Mention All-State in football, and District Qualifier, 1st Team All League, and Regional Qualifier in wrestling. Perhaps most notable is Bill’s strict self-discipline when it comes to his work ethic and his moral character. Countless teachers and coaches wrote letters of support for Bill, consistently praising his willingness to push himself toward greatness. Bill attributes much of this drive for excellence to his father, who he says has always pushed him to work hard and succeed in all things possible. Bill credits his mother for helping him find balance by offering support, advice, and compassion. Bill believes strongly in doing what is right and setting a positive example for his peers and those around him, particularly his two younger brothers. He attributes this quality to his grandfather, who Bill says taught him many important lessons about moral decisions. After graduating from Souderton Area High School this spring, Bill will attend Muhlenberg College in Allentown, PA where he will study history. He plans on attending law school and hopes to get involved with business law and politics throughout the duration of his career.
